The Squirrel’s fake record…

So who is Mr Squrrel and do we really care?

Mr Squirrel went to the same art college as Ray Davies and Adam Ant but not at the same time.

Mr Squirrel painted the sleeves of mid 1980’s indie sensations The Weather Prophets and had delusions of musical grandeur so started writing songs and shouting at himself in the lonely squat on the north circular where having only a deaf pensioner neighbour he could pretend to be Nick Cave…

Having waited for the AR types to beat a path to his door although not actually making any music Mr Squirrel continued to work in a library and paint increasingly dark paintings until..

Reality dawned and Mr Squirrel went home to the country and then met a spanish woman who had his single art and thought well enough of him to drag him to Edinburgh where he remembers little but a Buffalo Tom show…

Returning to home soil (Oxford) he taught himself web design and started a webzine on the then exciting new genre of Americana or as it was known Alt-Country.

Flyinshoes Webzine ran for a few years then he ended up in Nottingham after writing for Bucketfull of Brains and another music magazine Hearsay. He even wrote for the BBC until he realised not being paid was a bit rough…

He continues to write occasional pieces here as a way of dealing with the aabsurdity of the world.

Here an image from about 1992 when he still thought he was in a country band..he was of course not..but it was a nice shirt

If you choose to dig deeper here the whole shebang..
